I am nearly done with the whole thing and still have 27 hints without ever having bought any, so it is possible to play all the way through for free. I also haven't experienced any glitches like some other reviewers have mentioned, so perhaps it is their hardware that is faulty. Anyhow, I'm withholding a star only because the upper levels place words in exactly the same position from puzzle to puzzle so once you learn the pattern there isn't any challenge left. Also, there are misspellings which can stump you (sites vs. sights, for instance) needlessly.
